A new future envisioned for Beaufort's historic Lipsitz shoe store

In 2009 the historic Lipsitz department store closed after 107 years in business, and the building has remained largely unused in the two years since.

Now The Island Packet is reporting that Bluffton resident Jeffrey Bisger has bought the building and is planning a mix of either retail or restaurant space on the first floor and apartments above; read the brief report over here.

The 11,000 square foot building was listed at $1.2 million but sold for $525,000, its assessed value is just bellow $1 million.

Oh, and if you've been away from Beaufort, know that the newer Lipsitz shoes across the street run by the son, Neil Lipsitz, has also closed.
