Procedural hurdle could set back Ridgeland camera ban until 2012

A last-minute amendment introduced by Sen. Vincent Sheheen, D-Camden, dislodged a final procedural vote on a bill that would effectively ban traffic cameras.

The amendment's purpose would be to allow for tickets to be issued beyond a one-hour window if police view chasing after a vehicle as too dangerous.

Sheheen for his part says it's a worthy safety consideration and that he introduced the amendment at the appropriate time, while bill sponsor Sen. Larry Grooms, R-Berkeley, says Sheheen is only trying to delay the legislation.

I'll shoot you over to The Island Packet for a rundown on the situation; read their report here.
