Following funding elimination, Trident United Way and Boy Scouts come to agreement

Following a rather public falling out between the Trident United Way and the Coastal Carolina Council of the Boy Scouts of America regarding funding of the Scout and be able to track effectiveness, the two groups have met and made up -- even if it is lacking in specifics.

The two groups met for a three-and-a-half hour meeting and Lonnie Carter, president and CEO of Santee Cooper and Board chair of Trident United Way and a Boy Scout donor, said "All of us in the room recognized that the events of the past week damage not just two great community organizations but the shared work of building a stronger community."

In a joint statement the two groups said, "Both organizations are committed to strong stewardship. For decades the two organizations have worked to solve the problems faced by individuals and families in our community.

This week a team of volunteers and staff from both organizations met to better understand each others’ decision-making process and fiscal accountability to move forward working together to meet the needs of the youth in our community."

Perhaps following those efforts funding may be reestablished, but I'm sure both groups are hoping the political damage is behind them.
