Local groups look to unite to save Hardeeville welcome center

Update August 9: Perhaps drive thrus and gas stations could be the answer.

First reporting: Beaufort and Jasper county groups aren't eager to let theĀ Hardeeville welcome center disappear with theĀ S.C. Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism's budget cuts, especially as the site is the most popular of its kind in the state.

And so they're looking to scrap together a couple hundred grand per year to keep it up, running, and perhaps a bit more favorable to the immediate area.

Take a read of what's up over at The Island Packet.
