Dock fungus eating away at Lowcountry piers

The battle zone.

Docks all over the Lowcountry are under siege as brown rot fungus marches up the coast from Florida, leaving a trail of damaged wooden piers.

The copper-tollerent fungi is eating away at the exposed wood, converting it into the fungi's trademark wooly orange mass.

WTOC 11 has a nice video report on the issue along with some video of the havoc the fungus wreaks; watch it here. There's also a slightly older but informative-in-a-different-way post from ABC News 4 in Charleston; watch that here.
