Update February 2: The Island Packet has a follow on this one that says the robberies likely aren't linked to the rash of similar robberies in the region.

Read the paper's general follow here.

First reporting January 28: Just after 10 p.m. on Thursday, January 27, Beaufort Police Officers responded to an armed robbery at the China Express Restaurant in the Cross Creek Shopping Center.

A witnesses said two suspects dressed in all black entered the business, were wearing ski masks, presented handguns and then jumped the counter to take money from the cash register.

They were described as African-American men, medium height and weight, in their late teens or early twenties, and one was carrying a grey backpack.

Anyone with information is asked to contact dispatch at (843) 524-2777 or Investigator George Erdel at (843) 322-7958.

The last time a local Chinese restaurant robbery was in the news was back in September 2010, and the description of the suspects isn't too off the mark from what we know of the Lowcountry Asian bandits — and we haven't heard much about suspects being arrested there.
