Deepening of Savannah River given go ahead

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has approved a plan to deepen the Savannah River to 47 feet, and will allow for 48 feet if Savannah is willing to pay for it.

This decision could have economic and environmental implications in regard to the Ports of Savannah, Charleston and potentially Beaufort and Jasper counties.
