Charleston port chief: S.C. Shipping cargo must be doubled

There's no hiding it: While the shipping industry as a whole has been hurt in recent years, Charleston's competitive edge has been sliding even harder.

And so S.C. State Ports Authority CEO Jim Newsome has laid out a goal to double the cargo volume of South Carolina ports by 2030 — no small task.

And while a Jasper port would be struggling to get up and running by 2030, a lack of that topic in the vision for South Carolina is curious, but certainly not shocking given the authority's historic disinterest.
