Video, photos from the Hunting Island polar bear plunge

While today's near-70 degree high surely would have made the leanest polar bears sweat, the 3rd Annual Pelican Plunge went ahead on New Year's Day with a perhaps larger crowd than it would have otherwise charted. 

Several hundred came out for the music, costumes, Simon Sez, general revelry, and brief dip in the Lighthouse Beach at Hunting Island.

The event raises money for educational programs like the "Discover Carolina" State Park programs. In all some $3,200 was collected that day — and the event was surely a windfall for gate collections at the park. In all Boondocks Restaurant raised the most money.
