The folks in the Midlands have been getting hammered early this morning by the approaching cold front, and now heavy rain is due to hit Beaufort late this morning and early this afternoon.

Look for the rain to start around 9 a.m., peak from 11 to 2 p.m., and trail through the evening — and expect a healthy dose of wind and thunder to go with it all. The National Weather Service says as much as half an inch could be recorded.

Large hail and tornados are also a significant possibility. 

The high should hit 85 and signal a cooler Friday and Saturday with highs in the high-70s.
