MCAS Beaufort Blue Angels Air Show is nearly here (update: the info you need)

The Blue Angels in formation at a past Beaufort air show

Update April 29: Just a quick update to point out a pretty solid guide to the air show by The Island Packet. Check it out here — but it's sparse on links, for those scroll down.

Oh, and thanks to yesterday's cold front we can expect great weather Saturday and Sunday: Clear skies with highs in the high 70s and low 80s.

Update April 27: With the air show nearly hear you should start bracing for the noise — and I don't mean the planes, I mean the copious amount of coverage that will begin to inundate us.

That said, I've just finished my most recent pile of reading on the event this Saturday and Sunday, and there weren't too many standouts, but know that we're watching your back looking for the good coverage. That said, there are a few tips I should pass your way:

  • The increased noise has already begun as training runs are under way.
  • The dates are Saturday, April 30, and Sunday, May 1.
  • The schedule for both days is the same with gates opening at 9 a.m. the band at 10, and various air and ground performances from 11 to 3 p.m. when the Blue Angels take flight. The even will close with the band at 4. You can see the full schedule here.
  • Don't forget that sunscreen -- or consider investing in a premium ticket to the free event. My eye's on the $50 beer garden.
  • When in doubt, checkout the website or ask them on their Twitter or Facebook presences. Or go old school and call (843) 228-7700.
  • And checkout the video up top, you won't want to overpack the family car.

Update April 26, ha ha: We're just a few days away from the April 30 and May 1 air show and we wanted to put it back on your radar ... and point out a humorous video.

Check it out up top, and do limit unneeded personal items, but bring sunblock and definitely bring that mullet wig you have.

First reporting: Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort will host nearly 150,000 of its closest friends and neighbors at the 2011 Beaufort Air Show.

There is no cost to the general public to attend the show; however, premium seating is available at BeaufortAirShow.com/Tickets. The show will be held April 30 and May 1.

The show will showcase Naval aviation at its best with a demonstration by the United States Naval Flight Demonstration Team, the Blue Angels.

Our Air Show has two missions; to promote Marine Corps and Navy recruiting efforts and to say a big "thank you" to all of the members of the surrounding communities who support the men and women who serve this nation that are stationed aboard the Air Station and in the Tri-Command area.
