S.C. DHEC Office of Solid Waste and Recycling is the sponsor for the event and does not receive compensation, however the county receives 50 cents per recycled hard drive.

First reporting: The Beaufort County Division of Solid Waste and Recycling is holding a special Electronic Goods Collection and Document Shredding event Saturday, February 4, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

You can bring your old or broken computers, televisions, and other electronic appliances for disposal. Secure shredding of personal and tax documents will also be available.

(This is event is doubly good news as not only is it good for the environment and your privacy, but it's now illegal to trash your electronics in the trash can in South Carolina.)

Two county public works sites will be prepared to accept the items; the Public Works North site at 140 Shanklin Road site near the Marine Corps Air Station, Beaufort and the Public Works South site at 9 Benton Field Road off Burnt Church Road, Bluffton.

Electronics that residents may bring include such items as computers, printers, scanners, power supplies, monitors, UPS, hard drives, servers, laptops, cables & wires, surge protectors, switch boxes, sound equipment, tape drives, power supplies, calculators, copy machines, VCRs, DVD players, electric motors, cash registers, overhead projectors, transformers, test equipment, telephones, cell phones and other goods.
