Fiddlehead Pizza partners with Bluffton Self Help to prepare and deliver a Thanksgiving meal for 200 people.

“I have a strong sense of community and for helping people,” says Stacey Kennedy co-owner of Fiddlehead Pizza. “The restaurant has enjoyed a healthy rally in its first year of operation and the entire team wanted to find a way to show our appreciation to the Bluffton community for supporting us.”

(For a recent feature on the restaurant's homegrown philosophy, go here.)

“I called Bluffton Self Help and asked what we could do that would be meaningful and helpful to those less fortunate this year,” Kennedy said.  “My Thanksgiving memories include a large gathering of immediate family, as many as 25 in some years, sharing the day together as well as some good times when I was a chef at a property that opened up to the community to serve turkey dinners.”

With that in mind and the aid of Bluffton Self Help to identify families to create a guest list of 200 people, Fiddlehead Pizza will host its first annual Thanksgiving celebration. The restaurant will serve a traditional dinner to include: roasted turkey, parker house rolls, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie. Iced tea and water will also be served. Alan Stockhard will play live music during the entire event.

Feeding two hundred is no small task.  “We are seeking volunteers to help in the preparation, service and clean up of this meal,” says Kennedy.  The kitchen will begin prepping food at 6:00 a.m. and a host of tasks will occupy the day. Volunteers can help plate and serve the food, wash dishes, serve beverages, and bring good cheer. Volunteer shifts begin at 6:00 a.m. and each shift lasts two hours.  Families are encouraged to participate.

The restaurant will accept donations, both monetary and canned goods, to use in producing this meal.  Any and all excess from the meal will be delivered to Second Helpings for their use and future distribution. Several generous donations have already been received to produce this activity from the following organizations: Amazing Event Rentals; Fiddlehead Pizza; NLaws Produce; Scotts Quality Vision; St Gregory Great Catholic School; US Foods.
