Take in a bit of classic Lowcountry culture and lore at the annual Marsh Tacky Beach Race returns to Coligny Beach on Sunday, March 17.
Bring your beach chairs and plan to arrive before noon to get a good spot on the beach and to meet the horses, riders and owners before the race. The horses will be presented at noon and the beach races start at 1 at the Holiday Inn located at 1 South Forest Beach Drive.
Racing Marsh Tackies on the beach was a wintertime tradition after each year's harvests with the winner taking home bragging rights. The races have returned to Hilton Head Island. Come meet our State Heritage Horse and learn about its unique role in South Carolina history.
The event is free and donations accepted.
