Update September 29: Read our coverage and watch our video of the Green Fair.
A new fair is coming to town, a green fair. It’s aim? Have fun and promote a eco-friendly mentality while not trashing the environment in the process. Come along with friends and family on Sunday, September 28, from noon to 6 p.m.
This free festival will feature local food and local bands like: Green Levels, Sean Waterman & Jason Hayes, The V-Tones, and many others.
Ride your bike and bring your children, because the festival is providing a “bike valet” and an interactive kids area. This event will be fun and informative for people of all ages, so bring your babies and your grandmas!
Marion Square downtown was picked to host the event for its ease-of-access and high profile. The group’s Web site talks about what will be available at the event:
In addition we will have a main stage for our larger names and musicians. Local and organic food will be highlighted in our Green Fare area and we will have a kidzone in the Family and Outdoor area. We intend for it to be a substantial event allowing for future “Charleston Green Fair” events that will attract not only locals, but tourists to our city. With Charleston being so ecologically conscious already this event is really a perfect fit for downtown. We have a tremendous interest in our community for this type of fun, cutting edge and meaningful event.
A full list of exhibitors is available online, and there’s a good supplement inserted in this week’s Charleston City Paper that has tons of info about the event and what’s where.
The event will also raise funds for area non-profit green organizations, such as: Lowcountry Earthforce and The South Carolina Aquarium’s Sustainable Seafood Initiative.
Also, the event plans to be back next year, and greener than ever.
And fret not about the trash produced: Seven-star will help put the event on and minimize the amount of waste going into landfills.
