Teen shot to death on birthday
MurrayArthur Murray had just turned 19 on Thursday when he was killed during an apparent drug deal in North Charleston. The fatal shooting took place outside his sister’s home on West Montague, and Berkeley County deputies later arrested a suspect in the case.
From Live 5 News:
“He was a loving kid. I didn’t have any problems with him,” (Murray’s mother) Cynthia Mack said. “Any back talk, nothing. He didn’t get himself into trouble.”
27-year-old Joshua Williams of Summerville, the man police say shot Murray, was picked up by Berkeley County deputies during a traffic stop around midnight.
“I think that’s great. Someone was actually doing their job and determined to get whoever it was off the streets,” Ms. Mack said. “I commend them for that.”
From The Post and Courier:
Detectives believe Murray’s killing near 4600 West Montague Ave. stemmed from a botched drug deal, (North Charleston police public information officer Spencer) Pryor said.
Authorities said Murray was shot in the stomach and pronounced dead a little over an hour later at Medical University Hospital.
