At a recent meeting, the Town of Mount Pleasant decided to move forward with a new farmers market facility that could cost between $750,000 to $1.5 million, according to The Post and Courier.

The new market is being considered one of the key elements of the Coleman Boulevard Revitalization project.
The Mount Pleasant farmers market is every Tuesday from 3 to 7:30 p.m. through October 21. Construction on the new facility is to start the first week in November.
Here’s a bit about the new facility from the town:
“The new market will reopen at Moultrie Middle School in the spring of 2009. The design of the new market calls for pedestrian access on all four sides of the site and easy vendor access. More than 10,000 sq. ft. of available programmable space will be shared by both the school and the market. The gateway to the market will be located at the corner of Simmons Street and Coleman Boulevard, and the perimeter will be fenced in for safety with aluminum picket fence and brick columns. The open air pavilions and their relationship to the majestic live oak trees will reinforce the Lowcountry playful form and character of the architecture. The new market will be an anchor for the revitalization of Coleman Boulevard and will provide a unique destination for residents and visitors alike,” [said Farmers Market manager and tourism coordinator Ashley McKenzie].
The Post and Courier has lots more details on what and why.
With the town looking to hike fees, I can’t help but wonder how much flak they’re going to get. But, sometimes you can’t make money without spending money.
