More classes going online in Charleston
Ken Hawkins/TheDigitel

The Internet is playing an increasingly vital role as our schools overflow with students, teacher shortages grow, and students can’t get the special classes they might need.

While the state Department of Education continues its less-shocking program of offering some classes online, there are several charter schools that are entirely online K-12 schools. One such school is the South Carolina Virtual Charter School.

Hop over to the Charleston Regional Business Journal for more on our state’s cyber schools (they also have a sidebar hiding on the right that lists some cyber school in the state).

Obviously the program is not for everyone, but it’s an extremely promising way to handle the evolving role of computers and the constantly increasing costs of physical schools.
