Minimum taxi price goes to $5

Update October 29: The rate adjustment is official. Read about it at The Post and Courier.

Original post: The City of Charleston may allow taxi drivers to bump the minimum taxi-ride cost from $2 to $5, and the flat price for rides to the airport from downtown from $16 to $20.

The new $5 fare would include the first two miles, which is not included in the current fare.

The change has been proposed to help offset the cost of higher fuel prices.

That change is set to be discussed on Monday, October 6, at 3:30 p.m. at the City Hall by City Council’s Committee on Traffic and Transportation. If approved, the full City Council would vote on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

City Hall is located at 80 Broad Street, downtown.
