College of Charleston raises tuition rates

If you’re a South Carolinian and want to attend the College of Charleston next year, it will cost you $8,400. If you’re from out of state … Well, let’s just say it’s pretty high.

The College of Charleston’s board of trustees voted yesterday to raise tuition 8 percent for in-state students and 9 percent for out-of state students. The trustees cited inflationary pressures and state budget cuts for the increase.

A news release on the school’s Web site has more:

The full-time annual cost for an in-state undergraduate student will increase to $8,400 from the current $7,778. The cost for out-of-state undergraduate students will increase to $20,418 from the current $18,732.

“This action by the board will help the College of Charleston pay for increasing inflationary costs, retain top faculty, and continue delivering the quality education and services demanded by our students and the community,” College of Charleston President P. George Benson said.
