This is the 6th time the city is hosting the event to “generate excitement in the community about the beginning of the new school year.”

Last year’s festival drew 7,000 to 8,000 children and parents and 92 exhibitors. That draw is in no small part attributable to free food, some free school supplies, and free admission to the aquarium.

The first day of school in Charleston and Dorchester counties is two days later on Tuesday, August 19. Berkeley County starts back on the 18th.

The even is at Liberty Square near the S.C. Aquarium Sunday, August 17 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Parking will be available for $1.

The city held a “design the logo” contest for students aged 11 to 15 years and the winner will be unveiled at the festival.
