MOJA Arts Festival: A Celebration of African-American and Caribbean Arts

Jonathan Green
Jazz, dance, film, theater, drums, paintings and more, the Charleston’s 25th annual MOJA Arts Festival aims to highlight the “many African-American and Caribbean contributions to western and world cultures.” And it’s also good fun.
There’s a ton of ticketed events, free events, and visual arts exhibitions (I’m not sure why they’re put in a third category either).
MOJA, A Swahili, means “one.” “MOJA is one of the most important cultural projects on our arts each year,” said Charleston Mayor Joe Riley. “It engages residents and visitors of all ages, ethnic backgrounds and economic circumstances to its wide variety of offerings.”
A wide variety for sure. The event runs at a multitude of venues from Thursday, September 25 through Sunday, October 5.
Head over to their site for lots of details, or bookmark this link, where we’ll be highlighting lots of interesting events.
Or, if you want something more portable, here’s a printable brochure.
